Hog Wild Sunday!

P1010687

Sunday, June 7, 2009 was not your ordinary Sunday morning service here at Cornerstone Family Worship. A firetruck from the Tonganoxie Fire Department, a police car from the Tonganoxie Police Department, an ambulance from the Tonganoxie EMT Services, the aroma of hot dogs and hamburgers wafting through the air and more than 100 motorcycles filled Cornerstone’s parking lot. With more prizes, more people and more bikes, this year’s Bike Show and Veterans Rally was another huge success!

For the fourth year in a row now, everyone was welcomed to show off their bike, take part in the judging, down hundreds of free hot dogs, hamburgers and cookies while enjoying a fun family oriented morning of fellowship.

Along with door prizes donated by area merchants, there were two prize categories this year: Stock Class and Custom Class, with each class having a first place prize of $500, a second place prize of $100 and a third place of $50.

The annual bike show is Cornerstone’s way to show honor and say thanks to not only to the thousands of U.S. military personnel and veterans that protect and serve our country on a daily basis but to honor our police officers, firefighters and EMT’s who serve our community every day.

The day started with free registration at 9:00 a.m. for anyone wanting to enter their bike in the judging. Everyone was invited to vote for their favorite bikes in each class from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. While the votes were being tallied, everyone gathered in  the church sanctuary for a presentation from the Christian Motorcyclists Association, a short sermon from Pastor Ron Swaim dealing with collisions in life and then the moment that everyone so anxiously waits for, the announcement of the prize winners!

As the bike show came to an end, bikers mounted up for a 100-mile bike run.

Assistant Pastor Ryan Keltner and his wife, Jenni, stated, “We had a record breaking amount of bikes and people! And we know lives were touched and changed!”

Jenni also added, “Take note...Ryan is already making plans for next year!  It will be HUGE!!”
